My favorite hockey team is the Pittsburgh Penguins. I love the characterization of the Pens as the good guys. Granted, a lot of this vibe is built around Sidney Crosby. He’s a legend, a great leader and, most importantly, avoids the limelight. He’s probably genuinely awesome, a kind soul dedicated to the sport. If, by some chance he isn’t, Crosby has the good sense not talk about it.
It’s almost an oddity for a sports legend to have avoided scandal. Props to him.
When I paint portraits, I never paint villains. Even though I’m intrigued by the dark side of history, I’ll never paint Jim Jones or Kristi Noem. There are already enough pictures of them. I’d rather paint the people who struggled to survive history.
